Colombian National Football Team Squad Announcement for the South American Qualifiers for the 2026 World Cup

With a recent runner-up finish in the 2024 Copa América, the Colombian national team has showcased a renewed image. Despite this achievement, several key players have been left out of coach Néstor Lorenzo’s squad due to injuries, ahead of the South American Qualifiers for the 2026 World Cup.

Currently, Colombia sits third in the South American Qualifiers standings with 12 points. The team is preparing to face Peru on September 6th at the Estadio Nacional in Lima, and Argentina on September 10th in Barranquilla, which will be the 7th and 8th matchdays of the qualifiers.

The Colombian players who were crucial in the 2024 Copa América but will miss these matches due to injuries include Dávison Sánchez (Galatasaray), Miguel Borja (River Plate), and David Ospina (Al-Nassr).

On the other hand, the squad will feature James Rodríguez and Luis Díaz, who were standout performers in the Copa América, for these crucial fixtures. Additionally, Juan Cabal, Juan Camilo Hernández ‘El Cucho,’ Yerson Mosquera, and the young goalkeeper Kevin Mier, who recently led Cruz Azul of Liga MX to the 2024 Clausura final, will be available.
