Infantino Thanks Trump for His Support of the 2026 World Cup
FIFA President Gianni Infantino has expressed his gratitude to former U.S. President Donald Trump for his support of the FIFA World Cup 2026. During Trump’s inauguration ceremony in Washington D.C., Infantino highlighted the importance of presidential backing for the success of the tournament, which will be hosted by the United States, Mexico, and Canada.
Infantino stated: “Mr. Trump, your public show of support as the new President of the United States for the FIFA World Cup 2026 is a moment of great respect for FIFA and for the continuous growth of our game worldwide. I sincerely thank you and assure you that, together, we will make the U.S. welcome the world, and football will unite the planet.”
The relationship between Infantino and Trump dates back to August 2018, when the FIFA President was invited to the White House. Since then, they have maintained regular communication, including meetings at international events like the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland. This presidential support is seen as a significant boost for the organization and promotion of the 2026 World Cup, which will be the first to feature 48 national teams and 16 host cities, with 12 of them in the United States.
